On Political Parties and Fillibustering

ugh

This is all so fucking CHILDISH. “No, we don’t like your guy, we’re gonna run out the clock until you can’t do anything!” “Well, now WE’RE gonna run out the clock on YOUR guy! Na na na, I’ll read Green Eggs and Ham for twelve hours and get paid tax dollars to do it!”

GROW UP, America. This is how a group of toddlers govern, not full grown fucking adults with degrees from Harvard. You don’t like someone’s pick? DISCUSS IT. COME TO CONSENSUS. COMPROMISE. That is called DEMOCRACY, that is called DOING YOUR JOB. Waving your finger and saying “No, your team’s bad and my team’s good,” “My team is the right one and your team is wrong!” that’s how a ten year old operates, and when they do that, their parents tell them to learn to respect other people and play nice like big kids.

It should be obvious by this point that this infantile team allegiance to the Republican and Democratic parties is getting us NOWHERE. The system has failed us in a big way and either we need to get real adults who can do their jobs into the offices of these grown up man-children who blame everything on the opposing side (lookin’ at you, Mitch McConnell), or we need to change the system so that the grown ups can get to work on keeping the rest of us safe.

He's just upset because he's not turtly enough for the turtle clup

Do Not Go Quietly

We failed. Capitalism failed, America failed, hope failed, education failed, reason failed. I wish I could be optimistic and tell you that this won’t be the end of us, and I don’t think it will be the complete end. But if you want to know what I truly feel:

For the first time in my life I am terrified for my future. I’m afraid of the country I live in, I’m afraid of its leaders, I’m afraid of its policies, I’m afraid of its people, I’m afraid of its ideas, and I’m afraid of its structure. I do not know what the future holds, but truthfully I see a hurricane on its way, and when we had the power to prevent the hurricane or escape from it, we chose to do nothing, and now as a nation, we will face the consequences.

Donald Trump is a caricature of the wqy the rest of the world sees America, of the way minorities see people in power. He represents literally everything wrong in our system, twisted in our national consciousness. He is like a ghost of our past that haunts us with the bigotry, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, and transparent sociopathic false politeness. He is the personified grown man infant, and he is now one of the most powerful human beings on the planet.

America does not belong to Donald Trump. He is not a king. But he THINKS he is. And that will make all the difference. The time for playing nice with Donald Trump was over long ago, but now it’s time to fight this bully and expose the coward he is. The rapist. The mogul who values money over life. The spoiled rich brat who started his career with a million dollars of his daddy’s money. The illiterate author who hasn’t written a single one of his books.

I am afraid for the future, and I’m afraid of America. But we must not be afraid of Donald Trump. I’ve said this from the beginning: he only has power if you BELIEVE he has power. He’s like a fear demon who you can look in the eye and say “I’m not afraid of you,” and he will have no more fear to feed on. So what do we do about his ACTUAL power, as president?

Break him. Oppose him. Fight him. Refuse to let him muzzle you, refuse to let him wrap chains around you or throw you in a Muslim internment camp. Stand up and shout as one, “The America of yesterday is a dream that has passed, the America of tomorrow belongs not to the rich or the selfish, but to the people, to their needs, to their future, to their hope for happiness.”

Speak. Question. Do not relent. The fight is only beginning. Steel yourself for the tidal wave. Maybe we won’t all make it through. But we have to try. Do not go silently, do not abandon hope.

President

whiny little bitch
Alright, Donald. You got what you wanted. You win. Now it’s time to put up or shut up.

Because those women whose pussies you grab, those Mexican immigrants you call rapists, those mothers who had to end their pregnancies, those gay citizens whose acronym you can’t even remember, they’re all YOUR RESPONSIBILITY now. This isn’t a popularity contest, it’s a job. You didn’t just win “Miss President USA,” this isn’t one of your beauty contests, this is the real world, and you might be smiling right now but the toughest job in the world just came down on your shoulders.

Most people think you ran out of ego. I am one of them. But for your sake I hope it isn’t true, because if your fragile ego couldn’t take the spotlight and criticism you got from being a reality television celebrity, it sure as hell can’t handle the constant unending scrutiny of the presidency. Now it isn’t just your every tweet that’s being monitored and judged, it’s your every move. You want people to notice you? To care about what you’re doing? You’re about to get more of it than you could ever have dreamed, and I hope for your sake you’re as tough as you say you are, because whiny thin-skinned man-children don’t survive the presidency. There’s a reason Barack Obama’s hair is white.

You want to build a wall? We’re all folding our arms and waiting for you to explain how you plan to make it happen. You want to ban Muslims? Let’s see your plan of action. Are you all talk? I think you are. Well, the time for talking is done, and the time for action has come. You may have been great at running a presidential campaign – that’s all about showmanship, something you’re terrific at. But the real presidency isn’t about showmanship, it’s about hard work, something that you’ve done very little of in your life. You can get all the small loans of a million dollars from your daddy you want, but money won’t buy you experience, and you can’t throw money at the job of being president and hope things fix themselves.

You want to make America great again? You can start by taking a look at whose been supporting you. You can start by looking at the fear and prejudice and hatred your campaign has spread. You can start by looking those fresh-faced millennials who went out and voted for the candidate they believed could usher us out of an age of puritanical patriarchy and religious theocracy, and tell them how you plan to build a world in which they can not only survive, but thrive.

Do you think now that you won the presidency you can just sign a stack of papers and roll back all the progress we’ve made since the 1950’s, the era you’d like to pull America back into? You won’t stop progress, you cannot stop the enlightenment of people around the world who have free access to information.

The books cannot be burned anymore. Information flows freely, from country to country, in seconds. Your every move is being watched, your every action is being scrutinized. You think you had it hard before? You think you had to “sacrifice” by being a business man? You think you know the meaning of hard work? Let’s just see how you cope. You’ve talked a big game, and now it’s time for you to put your money where your mouth is.

We’ll see how strong you really are, Donald.
