Hi there! My name’s Jesse and this is my blog.
I started this blog back in 2010 as a personal journal to help me get through some confusing times. I talked about the things I loved: music, video games, books, everything that interested me. Over time my little blog has grown into more than just a safe place for me to visit my opinions and feelings, but also a place to share ideas with people, and to chronicle some of the things I’m passionate about. I post reviews for books, games, or anything else I feel like sharing my feelings on, and consider this your warning that they pretty much all contain spoilers, as I don’t want to throw a big “spoiler alert” warning in the middle of a post. I don’t censor myself or believe that anyone should censor themselves, so I speak freely and honestly at all times, and encourage anyone who wants to leave a comment to do the same.
Selected Posts Relating To Me
One of my aspirations is to be a novelist, and I’m currently working on some projects that I hope will continue to take shape and one day find their way into other peoples hands, and consequently their minds. I love writing about people, the relationships between them, the struggles of people dealing with oppression, and also the magic and freedom of fantasy universes. I’m not a big fan of classic medieval style fantasy, I prefer something in-between the classic fantasy model and the futuristic science fiction model, with a lot of emphasis on magic and emotion. Currently I’m working on my first novel, and you can read along as I post chapter by chapter, along with all of my other writing, on my second blog which is devoted entirely to my writing, Jesse Colton Writes, I also update my novel’s progress on Fictionpress.
Another of my dreams is to be a musician, and I am of the mind that all one must do to be a musician is simply play music. As such, I write and perform original songs, and I love to do covers of songs by other artists. Currently my ability to record in high quality is hampered, so it’s difficult to produce much new material, but there are currently a couple of collections of my music available on my Bandcamp page, and they’re all “pay what you want,” so feel free to take them for free, or throw some money my way and maybe I’ll be able to get some proper recording equipment. I also intend to make my music available for download here on the blog for free, as soon as I find a reputable site to host it.
I have a podcast called Too Much Information, in which me and my hilarious cast of friends discuss very important things like penis size, sex stories, celebrities we hate, and then slightly less important things like gun control, corporal punishment, and political goings-on.
Me On Social Media
I don’t really feel the need to hide myself, so I’m pretty easily available to stalk online in whatever way is necessary. I will say, however, that I don’t really enjoy the extreme over-connection of today’s world of social media, in which every thought, action and bodily function must be Tweeted, Intagram’d, and Snapchatted and Vined to the entire world. As such, the best places to look for me are on my Facebook profile and my YouTube channel, the latter of which includes a variety of personal videos, music videos, and anything else that strikes my fancy to create. I can also be found on Goodreads, where I publish all of my book reviews, and feel free to add me as a friend on that site as well. I happen to have an account on the Final Fantasy Wiki that I almost never use, other than to update what video games I am currently playing. No one is really paying any attention, but for some reason I keep coming back and changing it. Finally, I also have a DeviantArt account where I sometimes post stuff I’ve drawn.
a.k.a. quotes from me
“A first draft you aren’t satisfied with is infinitely better than a brilliant draft that doesn’t exist.”
“The mark of being in one’s twenties is the explosive combination of having the freedom of an adult and the judgement of a child.”
“Today I went from being angry enough to want to die, to being angry enough to want to live.”
Things I Like
Here are some of my interests and favorites. It might seem a little narcissistic, like I’m trying to build a shrine to myself and my interests, but honestly I really feel the need to document as much about myself and my life as I can, and frankly I need lists because I have too many interests to remember them all. That being said, if you’d like to know more about who I am via my interests, here you are.

“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.” ― Oscar Wilde, The Canterville Ghost
“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?” ― Richard Dawkins, Unweaving the Rainbow: Science, Delusion and the Appetite for Wonder
“Many religions now come before us with ingratiating smirks and outspread hands, like an unctuous merchant in a bazaar. They offer consolation and solidarity and uplift, competing as they do in a marketplace. But we have a right to remember how barbarically they behaved when they were strong and were making an offer that people could not refuse.” – Christopher Hitchens, God is Not Great
“You have to give yourself permission to suck.” – Kesha
“I think that writer’s block is kind of bullshit. I think that what people mean to say when they ‘can’t write’ is that they ‘can’t write anything they consider good.'” – Amanda Palmer
“Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
